A Team Day Spent Foraging Across Hawarden Estate

Four times a year, the Team at Hawarden Estate come together to do something fun and interesting (beer tasting, foraging, life coaching). In doing this we all learn more about this historic estate: its colourful history, its varied landscapes and its charismatic people. In October 2024 we came together again to explore the woods, meadows and Old Castle ruins found in the private parts of Hawarden Estate, foraging alongside the exceptional and expert Dave Winnard.

We explored the world of mushrooms and other fungi; how they work, why they are important, and how they fit into the ecosystem. We learned to identify different mushrooms, whilst looking for a variety of species in different habitats across this amazing estate. And, crucially, we discussed edible, poisonous and medicinal species; from Hairy Curtain Crust to Turkeytail, Shaggy Parasol to Oakbug Milkcap...
