We are so happy to have you with us at our inaugural On The Horizon!

This is going to be a wonderful weekend,
and the start of something great.

Getting here by car.
The address is The Walled Garden, CH5 3NY and the entrance is tasteful.pillows.caller on What3words. Please note that this is not the Hawarden Estate Farm Shop entrance.

Turn in through the gates, and turn right into the car park. This is also sign posted.

If no one is there by the entrance to greet you, follow the signs to the Walled Garden, where we will greet you.

The car park is less than a 5 minute walk away from The Walled Garden, and we will help you bring your things from your car.

If you have booked a campervan spot in The Walled Garden:
The address is The Walled Garden, CH5 3NY and the entrance is tasteful.pillows.caller on What3words. This is then the route.

Turn in through the gates, and go straight up the track on the right hand side, with buildings on your left and a wall on your right. At the top, go left at the junction. Go through the gate, and the parking spots are just there on the left.

Getting here by train.
We recommend going to Chester station. From there you can get the X4 or 4 bus to Moor Lane (opposite the Summer Camp entrance) for £2. You can check timings on the Arriva Bus website.

Alternatively, you can jump in a taxi (there are always plenty outside Chester station) for around £20.

Hawarden also has a station and is a 20-30 minute walk away, but has much less regular service.

Programme.
You can see the plan for each day here.

Talks will be held in various locations: The Walled Garden Terrace, The Temple of Peace, the Tea House and outdoors in the open.

Locations will be updated and communicated if they change. We will show you around, don’t worry.

Food & Drink.
We offer tea and filter coffee free of charge, which you can find near the outdoor kitchen. You will need to use your own reusable cup or you can purchase a cup at our shop in the greenhouse.

We have also stepped things up with our new cafe and shop, located in our Victorian greenhouse. This is perfect for the coffee lovers - you can now buy proper coffee, too.

We serve breakfast from 8am - 9:30am - order this from the Outdoor Kitchen. We have granola, bakery items and some cooked items too. Breakfast prices range from about £3.50 - £8 per item.

This is on Saturday morning only. For those camping on Saturday night (by special arrangement) there will be no provisions on Sunday morning or Saturday from 5pm - sorry!

We run a bar too, which will open at 12pm each day. Last orders are at 10pm. You can find this in our beautifully recently restored Victorian greenhouse.

As well as The Walled Garden School, our teams also work for and run Hawarden Estate Farm Shop and The Glynne Arms. These amazing venues are located very near Summer Camp.

The Glynne Arms is our pub which is located in the heart of Hawarden Village. It is an AA Welsh Pub Of The Year. Let us know if you need directions.

Hawarden Estate Farm Shop is also a short walk away, and is home to a fantastic café and shelves full of amazing local produce.

If you would like to book a table at the pub or the Farm Shop please let us know, have a look here.

Breakfast in The Walled Garden.
Breakfast will be prepared by the Hawarden Estate chefs over the fire at our outdoor kitchen from 8am until around 9:30am on Saturday.

Please note that breakfast isn’t included in the price of your ticket.

Lunch.
We do not provide lunch as part of your ticket, but we do have some great options on offer in the Walled Garden this year. This will be from about 12pm until 1:30pm.

You can also head over to the Farm Shop or Glynne Arms - you can see the seasonal menus on the Hawarden Estate Experience website.

Dinner.
Dinner on Friday night is served on the terrace and is provided as part of your ticket price.

Please talk to us about any allergies.

Fun.
See our programme online, here.

Ask one of our hosts if you have any questions at all.

The Lake will be open at certain times - never swim unless our lifeguard is present. The Old Castle is open to explore. Please bear in mind that the Old Castle is an ancient monument, and that there are steep drops, wobbly steps, and so on.

Please do note: The above only applies for the duration of On The Horizon. If you are staying on Saturday night too then the park, Old Castle and areas between the house and the Walled Garden are private. Please follow signs and gates for directions and clarity. Or ask us!

Electric cars.
We now have a charger on site.

Please see here for more information.

A few words about safety.
The whole point of On The Horizon, and your time here in Hawarden, is to be free and for you to have fun, but there are a few things we need to do to ensure your safety.

-
Instructions on how to use the wood fired hot tub and sauna are on signs next to them. Please ask if you are unsure about anything. Please make sure to test the heat of the hot tub before entering. Each group or person in the hot tub, plunge pool and sauna must clean and drain after use. No children are allowed in the sauna, and children must have adult supervision in the hot tub.
-
Please keep your dog on a lead in common areas and keep them under control. Please use the dog poo bins provided.
-
Take care at The Old Castle. Under 18s must not go to the Old Castle without adult supervision. You may wander around the area, but please be aware that it's a very old, uneven structure with some deep drops. Do not climb any walls, and please follow all signage.
-
Be careful of the ponds across the site. There are several, and some may be covered in algae and plants. They are roped off or signposted but you must take care.
-
The Lake is only open during published times when a lifeguard is on duty. When swimming, please avoid the leafy areas and be aware that it’s a wild lake! Please bring a towel and warm up afterwards.
-
The Cricket Pitch and Pavilion are out of bounds.
-
Anywhere out of bounds is signposted. If you are not sure where you can go then please ask.
-
We do have security on site for your safety and for our safety. They are very friendly - say hi!
-
Please use logs provided. Please don’t take wood, sticks and leaves from the woodland.
-
Please do not smoke indoors, or inside any tents.
-
Please only use designated campfire spots.
-
We have a defibrillator on site.
